Handfield will write and co-produce with Jeremy Renner the racing drama ‘Slingshot’
Artist International client Don Handfield recently joined his partner, actor/producer Jeremy Renner, in cutting a deal with Paramount Studios to produce a feature film written by Handfield called “Slingshot.” The deal, brokered by Artist International president Dave Brown, has Handfield writing the screenplay and producing, while Renner will star in the picture and co-produce.
“Slingshot” takes place in the world of rally racing and is based on a true story about a man named Bill Caswell and his adventure competing in the grueling World Rally Championships in Mexico against some of the world’s elite rally race teams in 2009. Caswell quit his job and competed in the event in a second-hand 1991 BMW 318i coupe he bought on Craigslist for $500 and rebuilt and modified himself.
Artist International, of course, is the talent management division of Hollywood Studios International (HSI), and represents Handfield, an actor/writer/director/producer who recently directed the football drama “Touchback” with Kurt Russell. Handfield and Renner are partners in the production company, The Combine, which also recently announced it would produce a Steve McQueen biopic now in development called “McQueen.” “Slingshot” represents the company’s second project to go into development.
