Company will produce and distribute black comedy from ‘Dexter’ creator James Manos, Jr., with Dexter’s Michael C. Hall and Vera Farmiga starring.
Hollywood Studios International announced today it will be producing and handling worldwide sales for a new feature film from writer/director James Manos, Jr., the creator of the hit Showtime series, DEXTER. The film, LOVE, SCOTCH AND DEATH, is being produced by Dave Brown, who runs HSI’s management division, Artist International, and Paul Schiff (RUSHMORE, SOLITARY MAN), who recently signed a first-look producing deal with HSI. Michelle Trump will also produce, and HSI’s Steven Saxton (THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT) and John Rubinstein of Authentic Talent and Literary Management will executive produce, along with Eric Christenson, President of HSI Films, which is HSI’s worldwide theatrical motion picture financing, production, and distribution company.
James Manos, Jr. will make his directorial debut on the project, which is a comedic and imaginative re-telling of his real life. Starring will be Golden Globe winner and four-time Emmy nominee Michael C. Hall (“DEXTER,” “SIX FEET UNDER”) and Oscar- and Golden Globe-nominated Vera Farmiga (“SOURCE CODE”, “HIGHER GROUND”, “UP IN THE AIR”). The movie is slated to shoot in November after Hall wraps his 6th season of “DEXTER”.
“LOVE, SCOTCH AND DEATH has been a passion project of Jim’s and mine for a long time,” Brown said. “And it’s awesome to have the resources I need at hand to help get client projects made. I can’t wait to see Jim behind the camera telling this crazy story.”
The script covers an all-too-typical week in the life of the Manos family. Returning from a stressful “vacation,” Manos discovers his parents have simultaneously died of natural causes in bed overnight, forcing him to navigate his way past an uncooperative funeral director, his bewildered children, his manic wife, an eccentric priest, over-sexed neighbors, an arrest on an assault charge, and perhaps worst of all, the death of his wife’s beloved dog.
In addition to Manos being the creator of Showtime’s hit drama, “DEXTER”, he won an Emmy for his work on HBO’s “THE SOPRANOS”, and was also a writer and consulting producer of FX’s “THE SHIELD”. “I could not be more excited to have this wonderful opportunity of making a movie with Michael C Hall and Vera Farmiga, who are both extraordinary talents and both perfect for the roles,” said Manos. “And to have my long-time manager/producing partner, Dave Brown joined by veteran Paul Schiff, and my head of production Michelle Trump is a dream come true. I can’t wait to get to the set.”
